The objectives of volunteer work


The objectives listed here have been determined to be of national or public benefit, and each one of them also encompasses initiative, preparation, organization, administration and encouragement for volunteerism, including mobilizing resources for that objective.
    • Teaching Hebrew language.
    • Eliminating illiteracy.
    • Adult education.
    • Educational and social activities to benefit families, children or youths.
    • Immigrant absorption.
    • Counseling services for residents and tourists.
    • Caring for elderly, disabled or sick people and their families; providing assistance by maintaining day care centers or institutions for elderly, disabled or sick people.
    • Caring for bereaved families
    • Assisting kibbutzim, agricultural settlements or border settlements with guarding, production, farm work, agricultural or other training activities, provided that the period of volunteering for these activities, under this section, is temporary and does not exceed six consecutive weeks (a volunteer who stays at a kibbutz beyond the above period of time).
    • Caring for soldiers and their families.
    • Assisting the defense system with production work, emergency storage facilities, workshops, or other work in IDF camps and units, and in police facilities and units.
    • Volunteerism without pay for labor services as defined in the Emergency Labor Service Law, 5727 - 1967.
    • Security for educational or public institutions.
    • Security for educational activities, including security and escorts for pre-military youth trips and excursions.
    • Treatment for drug, smoking or alcohol addiction.
    • Preventing delinquency.
    • Rehabilitating prisoners and caring for the families of prisoners.
    • Cultural activities by volunteer artists at IDF units and camps, or such activities at border settlements in which hostilities are taking place at that time.
    • National service performed voluntarily as defined in Regulations 1 and 2 (A) of the National Insurance Regulations (Women in Voluntary National Service), 5738 – 1978.
    • Maintenance of a child or incompetent adult, by a mother and father, who have been approved as a foster family by the Ministry of Social Affairs. For this purpose, “maintenance” is 24 hours a day.
    • Commemorating the Holocaust and its victims.
    • Activities for quality of the environment maintaining nature and protection of animals.
